people living in communities closer to the Zambezi River
have always had a unique attachment to the river. They believe that the “River of Life” is guided by water spirit known as
“Nyami-Nyami”. The spirit is believed to be responsible for flooding as well as
controlling the proper flow of water. From time to time they would engage
themselves in making sacrifices to appease the spirit. Although in recent time
these religious practice is fading away in favor of more civilized ideology.

communities closer to the bank of Zambezi
River are prone to
flooding. Meanwhile some sections of the rivers are uninhabited. The people of
those communities usually perform a local ceremony known as the “Kuo-mboka”
before they move to the higher grounds in the area.
